The theoretical study reflects the issue of pedagogical research in the subject didactics of social sciences and its impact on the development of this academic discipline. The introductory part of the study is devoted to a description of the current state of citizenship education in the context of the ongoing revision of curricular documents for primary education. The fact that citizenship education is undergoing its "Copernican turn", which is reflected both in educational practice and in the current RVP ZV, as well as in the draft of the revised curricular document, exposes the problem of the lack of relevant data from pedagogical research on key...

The presented text informs the reader about the findings of a study conducted on classroom observation records, acquired by students in the first year of their follow-up master's studies at the Palacký University's Faculty of Education in Olomouc during obligatory student practicum in the academic year 2022/23. By employing predominantly qualitative methods, focusing particularly on content analysis of records, we pinpoint areas of weakness in teacher training. The reoccurring problematic areas found in the class attendance records became far more a testament to the students' degree of preparedness for practice than to the teachers’ performances....

This article examines the formulation and implementation of rules for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the teaching of social science subjects at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University (FSV UK). In the context of the increasing use of AI tools, such as ChatGPT, by both students and teachers, it is important to understand how these rules are formulated and applied. The results of a quantitative survey among FSV UK teachers show that a large proportion of them have not established any rules for the use of AI in their courses, despite general recommendations at the university level. On the other hand, content analysis provides an...

The study tries to indicate a possible answer to the question of why we need quality civic education and why it should remain a worthy part of the curricula at the second level of primary schools. We will look for the answer against the background of current social changes and through the inspiration of the author M. S. Branson, who at the end of the last century dealt with a similar question at the Center for Civic Education in California. We base our view of the future on the current social context, especially after the year 2000, in which institutional citizenship education was formed and especially implemented.

Photography is one of the mediums through which we form our memory. Astrid Erll sees it as a "sign for the past" and a clue for defining historical events. It is also involved in creating postmemory, becoming a bridge between generations. Marianne Hirsch described this process in the case of the Holocaust, but it still happens today. Images that define similar events can become myths that shape their visual form. That is how historical events are seen, even by students in the classroom. In the digital age, photo sharing has become more accessible. The media have a long-lasting influence on the generation of a society's history and how it is represented...

The study deals with the transformation of the school subject Civics over the hundred years of its existence. During this time, there was a fundamental transformation of educational goals, but above all, a transformation of the student himself. Today, the pupil or student is in captivity of various strategies of biopower. These strategies made the current student a passive citizen, often looking only at his individuality. The turning point for renewed interest in personality and social education is the student's current existential distress, which must be used through the subject of citizenship education (or the basics of social sciences, etc.) in...

This contribution is focused on what role new media play in acquiring information among students in the second year of grammar schools and non-grammar school types of high schools. A part is devoted to how media literacy is viewed by different authors and how it is related to media education. The consumption of news by young people is also a topic, for example what is media literacy, or whether young people are able to distinguish between information and misinformation. The information and research contained in the post are part of my diploma thesis, which I defended this June at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University.

This article provides the insight into the study of ritual and narrative over the time and theoretically discusses the interconnectedness of the terms with a focus on their similarities and differences and the resulting potential for their collaborative research. The text attempts to demonstrate how narrative can be used within the ritual of president`s speech for the occasion of approaching the end of the year. It shows that the speech does not contribute only to the evaluation of past events of the year but also to the construction of a rite of passage which may lead the statesman to enter the new social environment with a change of his social status.
