The text attempts to demonstrate how narrative can be used within the ritual of president`s speech for the occasion of approaching the end of the year. It shows that the speech does not contribute only to the evaluation of past events of the year but also to the construction of a rite of passage which may lead the statesman to enter the new social environment with a change of his social status.
